I wanted to thank you for speaking to my Women In Engineering class today at Purdue. You are an inspiration to me. I feel like the only person to try this engineering path at my age of 39 and to find out someone else has not only tried it, but succeeded is wonderful.
I, too, came from an abusive relationship. It went on for 18 years and I have a hard time breaking out of that fog. And when I do break out, I have a hard time not being so angry at myself for falling for all the lies he fed me that now seem so easy to see through as false.
My divorce has been final nearly two years and I have met a man that encourages me every day to keep following my dreams. He is the one who encouraged me to go to school and become an engineer. I feel very lucky to have found him, but also undeserving.
Thank you again. It was very wonderful to hear you speak and also an inspiration for me to keep going.
J.T.
