It was presented to Susan by the Board of Education of Bremen High School District 228.

2011 Communicator of Achievement

Susan has been selected as the Illinois Woman’s Press Association’s 2011 Communicator of Achievement (COA). This prestigious award is the highest honor bestowed by the IWPA upon those members who have distinguished themselves within and beyond their profession.
Each year an award recipient, chosen from nominees selected by state affiliates is nationally recognized for exceptional achievement in the communications field, service to National Federation of Press Women (NFPW) and to the community.
The COA Award winner and the runner-up are announced at the Communicator of Achievement Award Banquet scheduled during NFPW’s annual conference. Each nominee is featured in NFPW’s AGENDA newsletter prior to the conference and spotlighted at the awards banquet.

Susan was interviewed by Jim Fitzpatrick during his 5:00 to 7:00 pm, drive time radio program which is carried throughout the Bloomington-Normal area in Illinois on WJBC Radio at AM 1230 and carried live stream at www.wjbc.com. They spoke about the importance of calling attention to domestic violence and the fact that We Just Don't Talk About It. And about her autobiography, Just Keep Dancing. It is an odyssey of abuse and triumph that describes Susan's 20 year relationship and marriage to her childhood sweetheart and how that relationship turned abusive and ultimately violent and dangerous; the pivotal event that changed everything; what can happen when one begins to make positive changes in their life; and that “it truly is never too late to live happily ever after”. |

Susan Putzler Brauer, a 1966 alumna, received the Truth Award. As a mother of six, scholar, author, and electrical engineer who went back to school at age 35, she serves as a model for all women, advocating tirelessly for women’s equality by providing a beacon of hope for women to break down the barriers that confine and demean.
Currently, Susan is spearheading the creation of an Alum Engineer Association and implementation of The Infinity Project to help raise awareness of the opportunities available to Peace students in the field of engineering. |
